The sages teach that “Elul” is an acronym for the verse in Song of Songs: “I am my Beloved’s and my Beloved is mine.”
The itinerary was prepared, locations were secured, families signed up, and everything was ready to go. There was just one final step: They wanted the Rebbe's blessing.
Throughout the month of Elul, the Jewish people has a collective task: to prepare itself to be
inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year.
A people is like a walled city, which needs a wall to surround it, with gates that open and close. In other words, we must protect what is best and most precious in ourselves against outside influences, and also be open to the world to give and receive, learn and teach.
